Anne Carson in The Glass Essay:

“You remember too much,
my mother said to me recently.
Why hold onto all that? And I said
Where can I put it down?”

I carry with me bodies of youth,
But my friends,
my friends no longer reside in these vessels.
I know them no more
than the strangers…
