My hometown is a long, silent street
Light, time, space decomposed
My hands uncover their dead bodies
I see my counterparts
They fit the street perfectly
A symmetry that encloses you
Once entered, the circle comes full
And I know
I can’t go
I can’t leave
no more than the day can leave
Even now, at the turn of the corner
while walking away
I can hear distant footsteps returning
at the other end of the street.
